In many companies in recent years, Quality Control has moved nearer to production in process terms and as an organizational unit and is coming to be seen as an integral part of the supply chain. Nevertheless the processes within Quality Control are currently only inadequately interlinked with the supply chain as a whole. It was to eliminate this deficiency that the OR Soft Jänicke GmbH developed laboratory control software as an add-on to SAP® ERP with the following objectives:
The relevant information on laboratory control is brought together from the different SAP modules and various other additional systems that are present (e.g. LIMS) in the Lab Scheduling solution. This usage as an integration platform is referred to as a cross-application. Since 2007 the OR Soft "LabScheduling" solution has been an SAP endorsed business solution. The solution is developed according to the SAP standards and includes a functionality not contained in the SAP standard. OR Soft develops and sells an additional SAP endorsed business solution, the Manufacturing Workbench for production planning and control. The solution works as a modern Advanced Planning Solution with a LiveCache (RAM based) and thus facilitates efficient working for the user, independent of module and system limits. The laboratory control software supports the achievement of logistical objectives using a large number of functions: Cost-effective execution of inspections
Compliance with quantity and deadline requirements
Capacity planning in the lab

The Lab control cockpit shows scheduling conflicts at a glance as an alert, and in detail as schedule information. The system integrates information about the various objects - such as master data (materials, inspection plan) or transaction data (process order, inspection lot, etc.) - from different systems into the inspection order as a cross application. |

The capacity-based loading of a laboratory is displayed in a Gantt chart and evaluated in a resource- or lab-based loading cockpit, for an adjustable time and discretization interval. For its functioning the system uses standard SAP master data. |

The process monitoring increases the transparency of the processes in the laboratory. Due to the updating of SAP data, changes are transparent for all areas. By this means adjoining areas in the supply chain can also quickly access information on the current processing or planning conditions. |

|
For medium-term planning of laboratory tasks a so-called inspection order is needed, which is based on the master data from Quality Control and enables the storage of planning information. To get a long-term overview, the inspection order is already generated for fixed planned orders and open process orders. Analogously the inspection order is generated for goods-in checking on the basis of order requests and orders. |

This part contains the description of the conceptual structure of the solution and of the integration concept with SAP ERP. In addition, it describes the integration of the relevant data objects and the analysis of the dependencies across module boundaries. The solution can be flexibly structured as regards the form of the interface and contains a large number of possible interface elements. |
